Fashion Month // SS18

19 days: 52 shows, 15 shoots, 11 designer collaborations, 3 influencers, 3 cities and one partner in crime. It’s been over 2 weeks since fashion month ended, and here I am: still trying to catch up on sleep and nutrients.

While having worked at or attended shows during NYFW for the last 5 years, I knew that fashion week is a time where you throw your rutine out the window and hope you make it out okay at the end of it. Fashion Month, however, is the culmination of the fashion weeks that take place in New York, London, Milan and Paris, one week after another, resulting in one month of sincerely questioning what on earth you’re doing (and where you are).

I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to jump straight back on the Saks Fifth Avenue horse just as I moved to London. I was able to join forces with the team to help create the biggest, baddest and the best coverage of Fashion Month on the @Saks channels yet. And just that we did.

It all started in London where my wonderful boss flew in to London the early morning of September 15th for a morning shoot with the amazing Kate Foley. And from that point on, until October 4th, when I barely managed to get on the Eurostar from Paris, it’s all a blur.

NYFW is a unique time. You trade in your office desk for Skylight Clarkson Sq, and the wonderful sponsors of NYFW keep you alive by providing free coffee and water. What more could you possibly need? There are some shows that take place at Chelsea Piers or other special venues around the city, but you do find yourself with a free coffee and a LifeWTR bottle in your hands at some point during the day.

The fashion weeks in Europe on the other hand are spread out through unique and independent venues that reflect upon the designer’s vision. The venue itself can sometimes be as spectacular as the collection itself – think Dries Van Noten and Thom Browne at Hôtel de Ville in Paris.

London/LFW doesn’t have a packed schedule, but it’s a nice ease into a hectic schedule for those flying in from NYC. I would leave my apartment at the crack of dawn each morning, and be back just at the stroke of Cinderella’s ride turning into a pumpkin. As much as I appreciated being able to sleep in my own bed, I remember looking forward to staying in a hotel, and not start and end my day with an hour commute.

Souvenir: lots of credentials.

Favorite shows: Erdem, Simone Rocha.

Favorite memory: Walking out of the Erdem show to jump straight into the car to the airport.

Milan/MFW was, well, a blur. At least the second day was probably some of the toughest days I’ve had in my career. On the Wednesday, we had a Prada shoot, a Palm Angels shoot, a shoot with Viviana Volpicella – all these before 2pm, street style shoot outside of Gucci, street style outside of Alberta Ferretti and a Vogue party. All these shoots (which I shot) and events were also on completely different sides of the city.

Souvenir: Comme Des Garçons bag from 10 Corso Como.

Favorite shows: Etro, Agnona, MSGM.

Favorite memory: nightcaps at the hotel bar, the pizza at God save the food.

Paris/PFW, oh sweet baby Jesus! This is beyond the craziest week, and the madness goes on for 10 days rather than just a week. There were several points during the time in Paris when I would forget that I actually live in London, and by the end of the trip, I knew better how to get around Paris than London. The shows were spectacular, the venues were breathtaking and the schedule made my cry of both stress and excitement on a daily basis. I was truly happy to be hasting around Paris, strutting in my pink boots and draped in my Roksanda blanket. I was truly living life.

Souvenir: Glossier products and Fenty Beauty (to hide those Chanel bags under my eyes).

Favorite shows: Thom Browne (favorite of all cities), Jacquemus, Comme Des Garçons, Celine, Givenchy

Favorite memory: tearing up as the Thom Browne show started playing “Part of your world” and being reminded why I love doing what I do, every moment spent with GG laughing, sitting front row at Givenchy.

That’s an official wrap on Fashion Month for me – until next season! xx
