It’s the awards season! And yesterday was the time for the big mama of award shows: The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars. Why are they called the Oscars? There are many people that claim they had something to do with it, and on their website (Oscars.org) you can read all about how Margaret Herrick thought the statue looked like her uncle Oscar. Yesterday, at the ABC red carpet streaming they claimed that it was taken out of a column, referring to a joke (Oscar does not really exist).
It was a surprisingly tasteful night, and there were several unexpected outfits and guests. And it is always fun to follow the guests on Twitter and Instagram for some live reactions. By stalking David Burtka on Twitter, I learned that his seat, at row E in the center orchestra cost $750. Jennifer Lopez was the selfie queen, by not only sitting next to Meryl Streep, but also getting a selfie with her. Later, she took a selfie that got photobombed by Jennifer Aniston. Oh, Jennifers…
I was mostly excited about having Neil Patrick Harris host the show. His work at the Tony’s is phenomenal, and even at the Emmy’s he just knocks it out of the park. However, last night did not top his hosting job at the Tony’s 2013 (Bigger) and Ellen raised the bar sky high last year. He was funny, but not hilarious. It was great, but not magical. Though, his predictions were pretty damn amazing. And I cannot talk about the show without mentioning him walking out on stage in his underwear. They weren’t as tight as the ones he wore at Hedwig! And as Hedwig on Broadway posted – “Before the gold statues, there were the gold boots”, alongside a picture of Neil as Hedwig during his last years run. Broadway has a lot of great singer and OH MY GOD how Lady Gaga completely became the talk of the night. Her transformation from cray cray to classy has been phenomenal to watch and she was a complete joy to listen to. If there is a remake of Sound of Music I want her to be in it! Though Julie Andrews can never be replaced.
In terms of the winners, I am considering getting a job as an official predictor. Most of my predictions were right, even though I hadn’t seen most of the movies. Birdman was the movie that took the most wins, and earned Emma Stone her first Oscar nomination. Fun fact! According to IMDB Emma Stone has another 32 wins and 52 nominations. Meryl Streep has 3 Oscars, another 164 wins and 244 nominations. We bow down to thee, Streep. Oh, how I wish that I could be adopted by Meryl Streep and Julie Andrews. Back to the winners – Eddie Redmayne! What a well deserved award! The moment I walked out of the theater after seeing The Theory of Everything, I told Ana: “If he doesn’t get an Oscar for this, I am escaping the planet”. I guess I am staying on Earth. What a true talent!
