Okay, it’s gonna be a bit more than two posts covering Sandy. She hit us here around midnight last night, probably because she wanted to watch Magic Mike with me. I can‘t really think of any other reason why….
I have been talking to the reporter from Solabladet again, so if you buy the paper-version, you’ll get a long story on what’s really going on in Norwegian…
Anyways, the wind has been loud and noisy ever since the storm actually hit Manhattan. As we are living in Lower Manhattan, I believe we get more wind than most of our friends here. It is quite an experience, but still, this stormy weather isn’t a first time experience for us Norwegians. The weather so far today is what I would call a typical Stavanger-bad-weather-day. The wind has been my enemy for as long as I can remember, but still I find it quite calming so far to hear its presence. We can hear its power, but it itsn‘t freaking us out… yet. What is freaking me out is the silence of the people. The fact that there is not a single person to see outside. The windows with lights in the apartments around us can be counted on one hand, but still, it is calming to see that there are more people at home than just us.
There are a couple of hours left before the center of the storm is going to hit us, and we‘re all sitting excited in the living room. I really hope that the electricity will be unaffected by this stormy weather. What are we supposed to do without the internet? Without electricity?? I’d rather not think about it.
At the moment, my phone is going crazy, it seems like it’s more nervous for the storm than I am. It won’t reply to some phone calls, and just ends up freezing for the next 5 minutes, so if you can‘t reach me, don‘t worry, I’m fine!
Now it’s time to make some hot dinner before a potential power out! Cross your fingers and wish us luck that the apartment and the 4 of us will get through this unaffected!
Bring it on Sandy!
